Experiences

It has been 3 months since my last updates on this page. There was so many things that happened the last few months in the life of Moyog Shorinji Kempo. We had the privilege of attending a WSKO seminar and upgrading for Black belters at the Iramanis KK dojo. Which brought in Sensei Nakata 8th Dan, a direct student of Doshin So. It was an awesome eye opening and enlightening weekends which saw participants from Negara Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia learning and sharing . A great fellowship among seniors and juniors of all countires. The weekend also saw Sensei Peter Chung, Sensei Vallin Awot and Sensei David Chin passing their 4th Dan upgrade test. Sensei Aliyah of KL Japanese club if I not mistaken and some seniors from Singapore also passed their 3rd Dan upgrade test. Congratulations!

The month passed with excitement as selected kenshis starts their training for the Sea Games. Training for their respectives events under the supervision of Malaysia Coach Sensei Alex Wang. A small contingent left for Jakarta on the 8th September for the SEA GAMES TEST EVENT which saw 13 athletes and officials carrying the flag of Malaysia, competing with other very strong contingents, namely host country, Indonesia, Timor Leste, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Brunei Darussalam. Despite having only trained for few weeks, Ss. Edward & Ss.Joannes managed to grab silver in the Men Embu, congratulations! Though the other athletes did not managed to win, it was not a loss, as we gained exposure and experience. Many things that was unfamiliar was familiarised. Whatever the outcome good or bad, it has indeed been a great benefit for us. Should we have not participated in the test event, we would not know and learn of the pressure competing at a high level competition. So come November the team will be prepared.

On the home front, Moyog Shorinji Kempo Dojo saw more new  kenshis joined in and some more are coming to sign up in the next week or so. What exciting is more young ladies are interested and we hope to see more as we have very few ladies and mostly leaves after settling down and having family commitment. Until then, great weekends and Happy Malaysia Day!

Gassho Rei!
